"Your smile is a messenger of your good will.  Your smile brightens the lives of all who see it.  To someone who has seen a dozen people frown, scowl or turn their faces away, your smile is like the sun breaking through the clouds.   Especially when that someone is under pressure from his bosses, his customers, his teachers or parents or children, a smile can help him realize that all is not hopeless—that there is joy in the world."--Dale Carnegie

Allow us to create the smile that will not only brighten your life but all those who are so fortunate enough to receive it!  Let's impact all those around us by making the world a brighter and more cheerful place to live, one smile at a time!

Esthetic Crown Lengthening

Esthetic crown lengthening is an elective procedure employed to create ideal gingival architecture and optimize tooth reveal resulting in quintessential smile esthetics.  The term "gummy smile" is used in dentistry to denote a smile that appears to display excessive soft tissue and, more often than not, short teeth when in full smile.   Short teeth and gummy smiles can be caused by several factors including gingival hyperplasia(gummy overgrowth usually caused by either medications or an irritant such as calculus or tartar), vertical maxillary excess(a condition whereby the upper jaw or maxilla is too long or in excess), dental alveolar extrusion(a combination of wear of the existing tooth structure and compensatory eruption giving the appearance of short teeth), altered passive eruption(a condition characterized by the inhibition of the gum tissue to migrate to the correct level on the teeth to allow for optimal tooth reveal), short lip, or a combination of one or more of the aforementioned conditions.

In order to diagnose the etiology or cause of the specific condition or conditions that lead to your specific presentation,  Dr. Balderrama systematically analyzes specific anatomical landmarks, takes photos and radiographs, fabricates diagnostic impressions, and records all data for further study during your initial visit.  Typically a diagnosis can be rendered at the end of your initial visit to allow for treatment options to be given and a tentative plan to be formulated.  A second appointment will be made to give a definitive diagnosis, finalize the treatment plan, and present exactly what to anticipate before, during, and after treatment.  At this second appointment a presentation will be made to give you a visual of the anticipated final result.  If approved, treatment will commence at your third and final appointment.   Bear in mind, although esthetic crown lengthening typically involves multiple teeth the procedure can also be preformed for as little as one tooth in select cases to optimize esthetics.  The following are actual procedures performed by Dr. Balderrama.

Multiple Teeth:

                                    Before                                                                                                   After

Single Tooth:

                                Before                                                                                        After

Occasionally, after spending two or more years in braces, it can be frustrating if one is left with a feeling that their smile is less than ideal due to short appearing teeth or a gummy smile subsequent to orthodontic treatment.  Esthetic crown lengthening often, in these instances, can complete the look you were hoping to achieve.  Call our office to find out if esthetic crown lengthening can help you achieve that WOW factor you were looking for!
